About This Event
When the museum closes its doors and the last visitor heads home, something magical happens: two legendary Italian chefs step out of their portraits and come to life!
In this lively, interactive musical adventure, children and families are invited to join the chefs on a delicious journey through the history of Italian food in the United States. Through songs, storytelling, humor, and playful audience participation, the chefs explore how Italian immigrants brought their culinary traditions to America, and how those traditions evolved into dishes that have become beloved across the country.
Children are not just spectators; they are part of the story! They will help the chefs solve playful challenges, discover surprising food traditions, sing along, and learn about the ingredients, recipes, and cultural traditions that traveled from Italy to America.
Inspired by IAMLA’s exhibition Mangia! The Evolution of Italian Food in the United States, the performance brings the stories explored in the galleries to life in a fun and memorable way. From the foods Italian immigrants prepared in their new homes to the Italian American dishes we know and love today, children will discover that food can tell stories about family, immigration, identity, and community.
A joyful theatrical experience for young audiences and their grown-ups, Mangia! A Chefs Battle Family Theater invites families to laugh, sing, learn, and celebrate the delicious story of Italian food in America!
