My name is Dr. Matthew Hammett, and I am from Spartanburg, South Carolina. I feel incredibly blessed to represent The Army of Survivors (TAOS) as part of my NYC Marathon experience. I've spent the last 13 years working with survivors of interpersonal violence on college and university campuses through Title IX and prevention education. I serve as Executive Director of the South Carolina Institute on the Prevention of Sexual Violence on College Campuses. I care deeply about serving others and bringing attention to these critical issues impacting many.
Running is a significant part of my life and self-care regimen, as I have run over 50 half marathons and several marathons. I love what The Army of Survivors stands for and supports. I am honored to connect with them, and running for TAOS is the perfect partnership. We have to take a strong stance against sexual violence in all forms, including protecting athletes. Together, we can fight the good fight and make a huge impact in our world. We all have a role to play, and I am excited to be part of the solution. It's a choice we can all make. During this process, I aim to raise awareness around sexual violence and raise money for The Army of Survivors while preparing for 26.2 miles in 'the greatest city in the world!'
