Dry Stacked Stone Wall Class

Registration ends Tuesday, 01/07/2025 10:00pm EST

About This Event

Peter Newson of Newson Stone and Masonry will teach a dry stack masonry class while rebuilding the Serpentine Wall at McCoy. Participants will learn the fundamentals of the art of dry stone stacking and a basic understanding of how to build a double-faced wall, plus have bragging rights over the wall when it is beautifully rebuilt.

You and your classmates will begin by deconstructing the fallen parts of the historic Serpentine Wall originally built with stone from the home of the Emma Bell Miles family. While learning the basics of dry stone walling, you will then sort and rebuild the wall. You will leave with the basic skills to apply to various stone projects at home.

Participants may continue to gain experience by joining Peter again the following Monday to finish the project.

Class is limited to 10 participants.

Image of Peter Newson Peter learned his skill from other masters of masonry and is now passing on his knowledge to keep the craft alive. To learn more about his work, visit his website, https://newsonstone.com/, and his blog Drystone Walling: Simplicity and Strength.
