About This Event
Join the Early Conservation Career Network for a mindful birding walk at Thomas & Palmer Brook Reserve in Great Barrington. Educator and longtime birder Dave Edson will guide attendees in the practice of "mindful birding"—a more relaxed and intentional approach to the hobby of birding.
The reserve, owned by Berkshire Natural Resources Council (BNRC), contains a mixture of meadow, wetland, and forest habitat, and is host to a wide range of bird species. We'll begin by walking along BNRC's accessible meadow loop trail, then we will plan to hike uphill toward Whale Rock, a unique geologic feature at the top of the reserve. The total length of the trails is just over 2 miles, out and back. Optional: After the hike, we’ll gather for lunch at Marketplace Kitchen Table; attendees will cover the cost of their own meals.
Please register for the event as space will be limited to 15 attendees. The hike is moderate difficulty and appropriate hiking footwear, later-summer attire, bug spray, sunscreen, and water are recommended. Please bring binoculars if you have them; BNRC may have a few pairs to loan. This event will be canceled with roughly 24 hours' notice in case of heavy rain or thunderstorms.
