MLK Day of Service 2025

Registration has ended

Join Joyful Readers for our MLK Day of Service 2025!

Celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through a day of meaningful service with Joyful Readers. On Monday, January 20, 2025, we’ll gather at John Moffet School in the Olde Kensington section of Philadelphia to create a brighter space for students and families in our community.

During our day of service, volunteers will work together on a variety of meaningful projects to support students and the John Moffet School. You’ll help paint vibrant, literacy-themed murals that bring color and inspiration to the school, assemble take-home literacy kits and curriculum materials to empower young learners, and organize classroom spaces to create welcoming environments for students. The day will also include a literacy-themed carnival, where children from the community can experience the joy of reading through fun and engaging activities.

Important Details:

  • Volunteer opportunities are open to adults and teens aged 14 and older; volunteers under 18 will need to have a completed parental waiver to participate.
  • Younger children are welcome to join the fun at the literacy-themed carnival and do not need to be registered (registration form is for volunteers only).
  • All volunteers must register individually.
  • Spots will fill up fast - sign up today!

If you'd like to register a group of 5 or more, please e-mail Sarah at sdelucas@joyfulreaders.org.

Day of Service Schedule:
8:30 am - Volunteer Check-in
9:00 am - Opening Ceremony
9:15 am - Service Begins
12:00 pm - Lunch is served
1:00 pm - Service Concludes
