Do the Clothes fit? Searching for Trans Identity in Archival Images of Crossdressing

Registration ends Thursday, 06/04/2026 5:00pm PST

About This Event

Not every image of crossdressing is also a transgender image, nor can it be assumed that it’s a statement of an individual’s identity.  This presentation explains the criteria developed to judge whether cross-dressing in vintage photographs is an expression of transgender identity or something else entirely.  The talk includes over 80 crossdressing images from the Louise Lawrence Transgender Archive in Vallejo.  The most recent photos are about 40 years old, the oldest over 100. This event is made possible by a grant from Horizons Foundation.

Admission: $15, or $12 for museum members. All Ages welcome and must have an admission ticket.
