The Honorable Jasmine Hyejung Yoon serves as a U.S. District Judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia, making history in 2024 as the first Asian American federal judge in the Commonwealth’s history. Born in South Korea, she immigrated to the U.S. at age 14 and later earned both her undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Virginia. Her distinguished career spans public service, corporate governance, and criminal justice—including roles as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Interim University Counsel at UVA, and Vice President of Corporate Integrity, Ethics, and Investigations at Capital One.
Her extensive background across the public and private sectors brings a sharp, practical perspective to the Presidential Precinct's commitment to democratic ideals. As a former federal prosecutor who secured convictions in complex public corruption and financial crime cases, Judge Yoon has spent her career reinforcing accountability at the highest levels. Her journey on and off the bench offers an invaluable vantage point on the modern judiciary's role in upholding constitutional principles, preserving public trust, and safeguarding the future of democracy and the rule of law.
The 2026 Judicial Fellowship Program is organized by the Presidential Precinct and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. Our cohort represents a remarkable range of courts, countries, and legal traditions. Fellows include judges serving on Supreme Courts and High Courts as well as specialized courts addressing corruption, organized crime, environmental law, commercial disputes, gender-based violence, and other complex challenges. Their experience extends from strengthening judicial institutions in Ukraine to advancing gender justice in Kenya and Cameroon and combating corruption and organized crime in Latin America and Europe.
Throughout the Judicial Fellowship Program, these leaders exchange ideas with American judges, legal scholars, practitioners, and one another—building relationships across borders and considering how courts can better serve the societies that depend upon them.
The closing celebration brings those conversations to the broader Charlottesville community.
