Presented by New Hampshire Timberland Owners Association

NH DES Data Check - Lancaster

Registration ends Tuesday, 04/07/2026 12:00am EDT

About This Event

New Hampshire law requires that land use permits consider potential impacts to threatened and endangered species and habitats (plants and animals). The forestry community’s interaction with law occurs most frequently when landowners and land managers apply for permits to cross a wetland or stream. This is where the permit applicant uses the Data Check tool via NH DES to view the NH Natural Heritage Database to see if there are any records of threatened and endangered species and forests or plant communities of exceptional conservation value in the area they plan to work in.

In the State of New Hampshire’s 2025 budget process the state made major changes to how the NH Department of Environmental Services, NH Natural Heritage Bureau, and NH Fish and Game Department administer this process. Join forest industry and natural resource professionals for this 1.5 hour workshop to review the regulatory and legal purpose for this process, and how landowners and land managers can more effectively and efficiently use the Data Check tool. Bring along your laptop or other electronic device if you would like to navigate through the process as well.

Instructors: Ryan Eshe, Ecological Program Specialist, NH Dept. of Environmental Services; Ray Bethiaume, Coos County Forester & Jim Frohn, Grafton County Forester, UNH Cooperative Extension

** This course may be used towards PLP re-certification**

PLP Credits: 1.5 hours        SAF Credits: Pending
