About Nā Keiki O Emalia Grief Facilitator Role
Nā Keiki O Emalia (NKOE) volunteer facilitators play a meaningful role in supporting grieving children and families by helping create a safe, compassionate space where young people can express feelings, connect with peers and feel less alone after loss.
All groups are co-led by two trained facilitators. School-based groups run in 6-week cycles with weekly 45-minute to 1-hour sessions (commitment: approximately 3 hours per week, including preparation & debriefing). Community-based groups run in 6–8 week cycles, with 1.5-hour sessions. During these groups, caregivers meet at the same time in a separate, supported adult group (commitment for community groups: approximately 4 hours per week).
Facilitators are supported by a planned curriculum, all supplies and ongoing guidance from the program lead. This is a non-clinical, supportive role focused on listening, presence and connection—not fixing or treating grief. We are seeking compassionate, reliable individuals who enjoy working with children, are good listeners and are willing to commit to at least two groups per year to help make a lasting, positive impact on the lives of grieving youth and families.
