2026 Freestyle Labs: Lab #2 (Brooklyn)

NYSX Freestyle Labs:
Community Conversations that start with Shakespeare and end up with you!

Freestyle Labs are community conversations hosted by NYSX on a variety of topics. Each lab begins with a brief performance of excerpts from Shakespeare that highlight the topics to be discussed, then the performers sit on a panel (sometimes joined by additional non-performer experts) for a moderated discussion on those topics. Finally, we will spend the last 30-40 minutes opening up the discussion for questions or observations from the audience.

Now in ALL 5 Boroughs!
After presenting the labs regularly at the NYPL's 53rd Street Branch from 2018-2020, and virtually in 2021-2022, we are thrilled to revive them with a new twist in 2026. We've chosen a single topic to focus on for a series of five labs, one in each borough, that will bring together a different group of performers/panelists (and audience) each time!  We're so excited to see how the discussions evolve differently in each lab, and where the overlaps emerge.


The topic for our 2026 series will be:
Ages & Stages
How Shakespeare helps us think about youth, experience, intergenerational relationships, and the many ways we "come of age" in a lifetime

We will be in the Multipurpose Room, one floor below street level (stair and elevator access). The audience will be seated in chairs at floor level, and the actors/panelists will be on a slightly raised stage at one end of the room. There are ADA-accessible rest rooms on the same level as the Multipurpose Room.
