The Ocular Inflammatory Disease Crash Course in Newport Beach, CA is intended for ophthalmologists (comprehensive, uveitis, retina, cornea, glaucoma, oculoplastic specialists) pediatricians, rheumatologists, patients and caregivers involved in the care of individuals with uveitis and ocular inflammatory diseases.
Registration includes breakfast and lunch; FREE of charge for residents and fellows.
The aim of the conference is to highlight how specialists in the field recognize and manage various prominent forms of ocular inflammatory disease and provide a setting for discussion for ophthalmologists, pediatricians, rheumatologists, patients and caregivers. Prevention of complications from disease has become the focus of modern medicine, and leads to better outcomes in patients, especially in ophthalmology. Many ocular diseases eventually lead to blindness, but some vision loss can be avoided by timely presentation to and management by a well-trained physician/ophthalmologist and informed patient and or caregiver, awareness and recognition of these diseases when they present, as well as the implementation of early steps in treatment or prompt referral, is critical to minimizing or preventing permanent complications from ocular Inflammatory disease.
Since 2019, we have held “Ocular Inflammatory Disease Crash Courses” in different parts of the country and featured speakers that practice in the area.

The Ocular Immunology & Uveitis Foundation, founded in 2005 by C. Stephen Foster, MD is a national non–profit research and education foundation, based at the Massachusetts Eye Research and Surgery Institution. The mission is to improve the diagnosis and treatment and find the causes and cures of uveitis and other ocular inflammatory diseases, erase the deficit of properly trained ocular immunologists and support individuals and families affected by the disease. Research, education, and patient support are at the heart of OIUF’s mission and programs.

Our Local Program Partners work alongside our core faculty to curate our group of guest faculty speakers that ultimately build an innovative and engaging program, specially geared towards the most important topics affecting physicians and patients of ocular inflammatory disease.
This year we are thrilled to work alongside Dr. Sanjay Kedhar (UCI Health) to bring our program to southern California!
Dr. Sanjay Kedhar is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in the medical and surgical management of uveitis and other autoimmune and infectious eye diseases. Dr. Kedhar is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of California, Irvine. He is also the Director of the Ocular Immunology and Uveitis Service.
He earned his medical degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla, N.Y., followed by an ophthalmology residency at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. Next, he completed fellowships in uveitis, ocular immunology and cornea at Johns Hopkins University's Wilmer Eye Institute in Baltimore, Md. He previously served as chief of ophthalmology services at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center in New York.
Kedhar’s research focus include white dot syndromes, juvenile idiopathic arthritis-associated uveitis and treatment outcomes for ocular inflammatory disease. A national and international lecturer, he is the author of more than 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals and a contributor to several textbooks. He also participates in medical missions around the world as a member of Operation Restore Vision.
This year marks our inaugural Keynote Talk at our OID Crash Course and will be given by Dr. Quan Dong Nguyen, MD, MSC on the topic of artificial intelligence and its role in ophthalmology and ocular inflammatory disease.
Dr. Quan Dong Nguyen is Professor of Ophthalmology at the Byers Eye Institute, Stanford University School of Medicine, where he maintains an active practice in uveitis and ocular inflammatory diseases, as well as clinical and surgical retina. He also conducts research focused on developing and evaluating new treatments for conditions including diabetic macular edema, age-related macular degeneration, and uveitis, with his clinical research contributing to the development of FDA-approved therapies. In addition, he teaches and trains students, residents, and clinical and research fellows in retina and uveitis at Stanford.
