Presented by Olympia Tumwater Foundation

Rose Photography Workshop with special guest lecturer Rich Baer

Registration has ended

About This Event

Join us in Tumwater on Sunday, August 25, 11 AM to 3 PM for a Rose Photography Workshop!

Learn how to take calendar-worthy photos of roses with Rich Baer, nationally-recognized expert in
photographing these iconic flowers.

Rich will discuss lighting, backlighting, focusing, background manipulation, and more. Once you learn
how best to photograph a rose, you can transfer those skills to other flowers, foliage, and so on.
The workshop will consist of a beginning lecture and PowerPoint program by Rich. Attendees will then
visit our onsite rose garden, where they can practice their newly-acquired skills with one-on-one tips
from Rich. Following the garden session, we’ll reconvene inside for a critique of attendees’ photos.

About our guest lecturer:

Rich Baer, of the Portland Oregon Rose Society, has been shooting exclusively rose photos since 1991.
His photos have appeared on the covers of no less than 47 issues of the American Rose magazine, and in
roughly 2,000 articles, catalogues, newspaper articles, and textbooks. Rich is clearly one of the premier
rose photographers in North America and, arguably, in the world. In 2018, his photo of the Peace rose
was given the honor of appearing on a U.S. postage stamp.

For 29 years, Rich has entered the annual photo contest sponsored by the American Rose Society. He
has won 14 prizes in that time. He has also received a knighthood from Portland’s Royal Rosarians. Rich
has degrees in botany, plant pathology, and plant physiology.
