Adopt-A-Trail Program

About This Event

Welcome to the Adopt-A-Trail Program at Lacawac Sanctuary. The Adopt-A-Trail program aims to create trail stewards who will assist in maintaining, beautifying, and preserving our trail systems. This program is on a personal basis where adopters can come and work as they please. This page is general registration. After you register you will recieve an email regarding which trail you wish to adopt. Trails range from Easy (Low to now slope, no-little unstable terrain/paved surfaces, little distance) to Difficult (increasing slope, unstable terrain, and longer distance).  Please read through our Adopt-A-Trail Program to make sure it's right for you. 

 

Volunteer (s) will:

  1. Sign in at the Visitor Center in our Adopt-A-Trail log book to log your hours. 

  2. Help maintain, repair, clean up trails in an individual or group capacity.

  3. Perform brushing, clearing, raking (hand tools only)

  4. Remove windfalls or branches of 6-inch diameter or less (hand tools only)

  5. Mark and collect data on current conditions of trail 

  6. Perform duties of crew: blaze area, clear trees/brush etc. using hand tools promote Leave No Trace outdoor ethics.

Work Environment:

Volunteer must be able to work outside in differing weather conditions. Trail terrain may be rugged and uneven. Volunteers will need gloves, trash bags, water, and personal hiking gear. Volunteers can provide their own tools or use Lacawac’s cache of trail tools. Proper footwear (boots preferred) must be always worn.

Work Schedule:

Consistent, trails should be surveyed/maintained on a weekly - biweekly basis. (4 times per month or 2 times per month) Beginning April 1, 2024 - September 28, 2024
