Presented by Lacawac Sanctuary Foundation

iNaturalist Nature Walk

Registration ends Friday, 04/24/2026 11:59pm EDT

About This Event

As part of the 2026 City Nature Challenge (CNC), David Trently will be leading an iNaturalist Nature Walk at Lacawac. The CNC is a friendly international 'competition' to see what region can submit the most photo records to the iNaturalist app. Our region (Northeast Pennsylvania) includes Lackawanna, Luzerne, Carbon, Monroe, Pike & Wayne Counties. https://www.citynaturechallenge.org/

Everyone participating should arrive with the iNaturalist app on their phones. David will review the CNC and how to use iNaturalist for those new to the app. We will wander the grounds of the sanctuary taking photos of all living things: flowers, trees, other plants, salamanders, insects, mushrooms, lichens and hopefully birds and mammals as well. https://www.inaturalist.org/

After the event, you will hopefully continue to submit records wherever you live or happen to be that weekend - and beyond!

As a bonus, since this event is happening during spring migration for many bird species, David will offer a short bird walk beginning at 8:00 am. Come out a bit early and learn about the birds at Lacawac - and you can start entering iNaturalist data during the walk.

We are proud to offer many free programs to our community, but as a nonprofit, Lacawac Sanctuary depends on donations to sustain and expand these offerings. If you’re able, please consider making a small donation at registration to help keep our programs accessible to all.
