Enjoy grooving with Boiadeiro, a Chicago-based genre-bending band playing a mix of funk, R&B, and jazz. They enjoy creating groovy interpretations of classics by artists like Marvin Gaye and Bill Withers, while also playing more contemporary funk in the style of Vulfpeck. They aim to always have a good time themselves and with the audience!
In addition to live music, we’ll also be joined by Mario Mena, of Mena Arte Chicago for another round of live painting! Mario is a Chicago-based muralist, painter, and teaching artist whose work is deeply rooted in his migratory journey from Mezquitic, Jalisco and his upbringing on the Southwest side of Chicago.
Drawing from underground subcultures, personal experiences, and a passion for community, Mario uses art as a tool for healing, advocacy, and empowerment. You can recognize his vibrant murals by his famous cone flowers, butterflies and other native pollinators all throughout the City – each one telling stories of identity, resilience, and belonging.
Mario is working on a really special piece for this fundraiser, honoring our impact from the last 15 years and welcoming a new era as we near the end of our Firehouse Renovations. Watch a 4ft x 4ft canvas come to life this evening and get your raffle ticket for your chance to take this unique piece of art home.
