About This Event
Suzi Cordish, LaVon Kellner, Peter Olsen, and Barbara Tober request the pleasure of your company for our annual birthday celebration of LongHouse founder Jack Lenor Larsen with a midsummer evening of music in the garden featuring classical pianist and composer Llewellyn Sánchez-Werner playing Samuel Barber, Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, George Gershwin, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and more.
Join us in the LongHouse garden for the concert and cocktails only, or continue the evening at RoundHouse with dinner following the performance.
With gratitude to Barbara Tober and the Acronym Fund for the ongoing, generous support of this annual concert. Special thanks to Ennius Bergsma for hosting the dinner.
About Llewellyn Sanchez-Werner
“A gifted virtuoso” (San Francisco Chronicle) with “mesmerizing artistry and extraordinary ability to communicate” (The Post-Standard) and “masterful technique and a veritable deluge of sonorities” (La Presse Montreal), Llewellyn Sanchez-Werner was just selected First Prize Winner of the 2022 Concert Artists Guild International Competition. He holds multiple degrees from Juilliard and Yale and was named Gilmore Young Artist, an honor awarded to the most promising American pianists of the new generation. His multi-faceted artistry has been featured on NPR, PBS, CNN International, the Wall Street Journal, and WDR-Arte.
He performed at the White House and Kennedy Center for Presidents Obama and Biden, and he received the Atlantic Council Young Global Citizen Award in recognition of social action through music in Rwanda, Iraq, France, Canada, and USA. Recent international performances include The Royal Concertgebouw in the Netherlands, CultureSummit in Abu Dhabi, and the Louvre and Grenoble Museums in France. Principal teachers include Ilya Itin, Boris Berman, Yoheved Kaplinsky, Robert Durso, improvisation with Noam Sivan, and composition with Lowell Liebermann.
About RoundHouse
RoundHouse and its gardens were built and developed by Jack Lenor Larsen with input and help from a large number of leading garden and arts and crafts designers. Over the last 30 years Judy and Ennius Bergsma significantly built and expanded on the original vision. The size of the garden, 10 acres, allows for great diversity while using “mass” plantings and two ponds to create serenity. It is a “multi room” contemplative garden with an exceptional array of great trees: one of the first China Metasequoias propagated at the Arnold Arboretum in 1949, a spectacular fern leaf beach, large copper beaches, a large Auracaria auracana (monkey puzzle), columnar maples, umbrella pine and many other trees.
