PLEON Citizen Science Training Workshop Session 1

About This Event

Become A Citizen Scientist!

Learn how to collect lake data from your dock or boat and help PLEON understand how water quality changes over space and time.

The Pocono Lake Ecological Observatory Network (PLEON) is a regional lake monitoring and education program run by Lacawac Sanctuary. Lake Wallenpaupack is a focal point of tourism and recreation. Understanding what factors influence water quality is important to everyone in the region. Wallenpaupack is a large, weirdly-shaped lake which means conditions may be very different depending on where in the lake you are. Working together, community scientists can collect data from many locations on the lake at the same time. These data can then be used to identify pristine or problem areas.

To join the program, attend the training workshop at Lacawac Sanctuary. During the workshop, you will: learn basic lake ecology, learn how to properly sample water quality variables, and receive a sampling kit with everything you need to collect data from your Wallenpaupack dock or boat.
