Winds and Brass Workshop Day

A workshop day just for wind and brass students!

Sunday, March 8th, 2026 at Powers Music School, 160 Lexington Street, Belmont
1:00 – 4:45pm

We know that trying new skills adds to your everyday experience as a musician - and as a person.

With that in mind, we've hand-crafted a special day of workshops for winds and brass players of all levels. Whether you're a beginner or more advanced player, each class is a great way to add to what you're already playing in your lessons, school program, or at home! Explore new techniques and play together with other wind and brass musicians in a safe, encouraging space.

Players of all levels can build confidence in their breathing at a "Breathing Gym" led by Allison Lacasse! Interested in starting or switching to a new instrument? Hear and learn about some good options at "Introduction to the Trombone and Euphonium" later in the day. More advanced players can add to their tonguing techinques in "Developing a Faster Single Tongue", and explore new music together in a flute or brass reading session!

Workshop Schedule:

  • Breathing Gym: 1:00 - 2:00pm
    • Breathing exercises for wind instrumentalists, taught by Allison Lacasse. For everyone who has begun to play a wind or brass instrument either in a school program or enrolled in private lessons.
  • Developing a Faster Single Tongue: 2:05 - 2:35 PM
    • Increase your single tonguing speed through a variety of practice strategies and materials! For intermediate and advanced wind players only.
  • Flute Choir Reading Session: 2:40-3:40 PM
    • Gather together with your fellow flute players to play music written for brass instruments - without a prior rehearsal! For intermediate and advanced flute players only.
