Program Overview:
The HOPE (Hispanas Organized for Political Equality) Youth Leadership Program (HYLP) is a statewide development program designed to prepare high school Latinas for a self-sufficient future that will allow for economic and political parity through a college education. The objectives of the HYLP include college preparation, financial empowerment, enhanced civic participation and the promotion of healthy living. Additionally, participants will engage in a digital story project to showcase their leadership project, while obtaining valuable new media training.
Program Includes:
1. Weekly meeting via Zoom: Workshops and Guest Speakers
2. Meet in-person one Saturday per month.
3. Optional events that may include in-person advocacy and volunteering with Assembly Members
4. Overnight trips to two largest conferences, the HOPE Latina History Day in Los Angeles and Latina Action Day in Sacramento.
Girls Inc. of Orange County will be choosing 4 girls to participate in this year's program.
Qualifications to Apply:
High School Juniors must meet the qualifications listed below:
1. Latina (self- identifies as being Latina)
2. Must have a range of 2.0 GPA - 2.99 GPA (Some Flexibility)
3. High School Junior (11th grade, 16 or 17 years old)
4. Become a First Generation College Student
5. Receive free or reduced lunch
2026 Required Program Commitments:
1. Must attend all training sessions, a 100% commitment is required
2. Participates in each session, and stays through the end of each session
3. HYLP expects its participants to make a commitment to HOPE’s mission and support the continuance of HYLP by volunteering with HOPE and/or another nonprofit in the future.
4. HYLP participants are expected to advance the status of Latinas by completing their senior year of high school and going on to an institution of higher learning and committing to graduating within a 6-year period.
5. HYLP participants are also expected to keep HOPE informed of their educational and career successes and updated contact information.
Four girls will be selected from the applicant pool to participate in the HOPE YLP program. Girls who will go onto the second round will be selected for a 15 minute phone interview.
Please note, the Final Deadline application is due by midnight on Wednesday, November 5th, 2025
