About This Event
Date: October 24, 2026
Time: 2-4 PM
Location: Chase Home Museum
Celebrate the fall season with a creative twist on local history, presented by the Utah Historical Society and Utah Arts & Museums. In this beginner-friendly embroidery workshop, you will learn how the past is woven into the present by stitching new life into vintage photographs. Our team will guide you through basic embroidery techniques to add pops of color and texture to black-and-white historic images, all while sharing the fascinating stories of the Utahns pictured in them.
Alongside the hands-on crafting, we’ll show you how to navigate our vast online collections. You'll learn how to explore the digital archives on your own to discover old photos, search local history, and find hidden treasures from the state's past. All supplies and materials are provided, and no prior stitching experience is necessary—you’ll leave with your own customized piece of photo art and the tools to keep exploring history from home.
Please note: This workshop is suitable for ages 8 and up. Children must be accompanied by an adult registrant.
Getting there:
The Chase Home Museum is located in the middle of Liberty Park in Salt Lake City, Utah.
To visit, enter the park from either 900 South or 1300 South and follow the signs to parking lots near the center of the park. From each parking lot, there are sidewalks leading to the museum.
The entrance to the museum includes a ramp, and the first floor is wheelchair accessible, offering two galleries and a history timeline of the Chase Home. The second level is only accessible via stairs.
