A Golden House Campaign

Shine A Light To End Domestic Violence

Make A Donation

About This Event

Every October, Golden House joins communities across the country in recognizing Domestic Violence Awareness Month—and the Purple Porch Project is how we make that awareness visible in Northeastern Wisconsin.

We’re asking individuals, families, businesses, and neighborhoods to light up their porches, storefronts, windows, and workspaces with purple—a powerful show of support for survivors and a visible stand against abuse. When we light up together, we send a clear message: domestic violence has no place in our community.

How To Participate

Golden House offers lighting kits for a donation to help you take part in the Purple Porch Project. Display purple string lights, bulbs, fairy lights, or spotlights throughout October—whether at home, in a window, or at your business. Every light helps raise awareness and spark conversation. All proceeds support critical services like shelter, advocacy, and prevention education.

You can pick up your kit at Golden House Monday through Friday 9:00am-5:00. Or email us for other arrangements at mariah@goldenhousegb.org.

Spread the Word

Follow us on Facebook and share our Purple Porch Project posts to keep the momentum going. Raising awareness is one of the most powerful tools for prevention.

Why It Matters

Domestic violence affects 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men in their lifetime. It thrives in silence. By lighting up purple, donating, volunteering, or simply talking about the issue, you help break that silence.

Your actions this October—big or small—shine light into the darkness survivors face and offer a path toward healing and hope.
