September is National Recovery Month

September marks National Recovery Month, in which we recognize and celebrate the nation’s strong and proud recovery community, and the dedication of service providers and communities like our own who make recovery in all its forms possible.

At the Alano Club, we help people recover 365 days a year. We do this through innovative programming — including mutual-aid support meetings, movement-based exercise through The Recovery Gym, Run TRG and Peak Recovery; cooking and arts classes and cultural events; yoga and mindfulness-based meditation; peer-delivered services; free legal services; and and harm reduction work through Project RED — and collaborative work with local and national partners like All Rise, Ben's Friends, Confronting the Storm, Literary Arts, p:ear, Pearl Jam, Wellbriety and many others. Thanks to the generosity and support of our community, we're able to reduce barriers to access by offering all of our programming FREE to anyone in or seeking recovery from substance use and mental health disorders.

We believe that connection is the opposite of addiction, and your support and generosity have allowed us to build numerous points of connection for anyone in or seeking recovery, and meet them where they're at with innovative, trauma-informed, evidence-based programming, like Project RED, The Recovery Gym, Plates for the PeopleArtists in Recovery & the Break.

This month we're launching a pilot program at The Recovery Gym in partnership with Dr. Mike Stone (an emergency room physician and Chief Medical Officer at Wild Health) in order to provide TRG participants with FREE epigenetic testing and long-term health planning, addressing the needs of many who face barriers to accessing healthcare.

Your support really matters—because Portland needs recovery,

and we need you!

Your donation could save a life.

As we face unprecedented addiction and mental health crises, in Oregon and nationally (the Oregon Health Authority released a report citing 1,392 accidental overdose deaths in 2023—a 397% increase since 2019), we have responded by identifying areas of need in our communities and addressing them with new and expanded programs, including Project RED, which in just two years has become the largest naloxone distributor in Oregon, serving every county in the state by delivering FREE naloxone, overdose prevention supplies, and training to anyone facing barriers to access. You'll currently find the Project RED team on tour with Pearl Jam, bringing this work to thousands across the nation and building safer, more supportive communities, eliminating the stigma around addiction and recovery and providing supplies to anyone in need.

All of this is made possible by your continued support.

This Recovery Month, we're seeking to raise $30,000 to continue to sustain and expand our programming to provide life-saving resources to those who need them most.

Can we count on your support?
