We at Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education mourn the loss of a true legend, ambassador, and very special friend: Bernie Parent.

To the world, Bernie was a Hall of Fame goalie and an NHL icon. To us, he was something even bigger: a role model, a mentor, and a steady reminder of what it means to live with joy and kindness.

Bernie loved spending time with our kids. He never rushed, never treated them like fans, but like family. Whether he was sharing a laugh, giving a word of encouragement, or telling a story from his days on the ice, he had a way of making every young person feel important.

He also treated our supporters with the same warmth and respect. At every Snider event, Bernie made people feel welcomed and appreciated. He took the time to connect and share his genuine gratitude. He showed all of us that the heart of the game extends far beyond the rink.

Bernie taught our players that hockey isn’t just about blocking shots, scoring goals, and winning games. It’s about finding your passion, believing in yourself, working hard, and being there for your teammates. He carried those values in everything he did, and our community is better because of him.

We’ll miss his smile, his jokes and his stories (no matter how repetitive!), and the way he lit up every room he entered. But most of all, we’ll carry forward the lessons he left us: to give back, to lift others up, and to find joy in the game and in life.

At the request of Bernie’s beloved wife and equally passionate supporter, Gini, donations in his honor may be made to Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education, helping ensure his legacy of inspiring young people will live on for generations.

Thank you for everything, Bernie. You’ll remain #1 in our hearts forever.
