In 2007, Betty Lou Hinderks and her husband, Ward, moved to Santa Marta. When Betty Lou was asked to help beautify the healthcare garden, she embraced the opportunity with enthusiasm.
The garden was in need of care, but Betty Lou saw its potential. She sketched a vision, recruited resident volunteers, and inspired generous monetary and in kind donations, many given in memory of loved ones. Through her dedication, the Santa Marta Memory Garden began to flourish.
As time passed, Betty Lou was no longer able to maintain the garden, and it gradually fell into decline. About two years ago, a new Garden Committee of Santa Marta residents came together to restore her vision. Through many hours of weeding, planting, trimming, watering, and caring for the garden, the committee continues to preserve this special place of beauty and remembrance.
