Nirvana Ōzesshin 2024

About This Event

Please join us for Nirvana Ōzesshin commemorating the death and entrance into Nirvana of Shakyamuni Buddha. Rinzai-ji is pleased to announce that Minakawa Rōshi from Jōshū Rōshi's ordination temple, Zuiryū-ji in Sapporo, is returning to lead the Nirvana Ōzesshin once again. There will be daily Teishō on Mumonkan and Sanzen.

起龍軒皆川彰久老師 (Kiryūken Minakawa Shyōkyū Rōshi) is abbot of Zuiryū-ji as well as recently founded Sapporo Zen Center in Hokkaido, Japan. Minakawa Rōshi was trained at Zuigan Sōdō in Matsushima where Jōshū Rōshi trained. Minakawa Rōshi is one of very few Rinzai Rōshi in Japan who gives Sanzen daily to lay practioners. 

Sesshin Information:

Hashinkyū-ji: Monday, 12th | Banka 4:00p.m.

Sesshin: February 13th (Tue) - 17th (Sat) 

Nirvana Ceremony: Sunday, February 18th

Sesshin Fee: $500*
*Work exchange or reduced fees may be available to those who would otherwise be unable to attend.

Travel to Sesshin:
Plan to arrive by 2:00 p.m. and settle. Please contact Rinzai-ji for registration as well as transportation to Mt.Baldy if you're flying to LAX. For those who are flying into Ontario, please contact Mt.Baldy office directly to make arrival arrangements. Please indicate your flight info in the registration form if you need to be picked up from the airport. 

In the Additional information field in online registration: Indicate if you wish to 1) do Sanzen, 2) fly in and out of Ontario, 3) if you need transportation to Mt.Baldy, 4) if you have special needs, ie) food allergy, medical condition, etc. Specify what it is in the box. If you have any questions, or if this will be your first sesshin, please contact office@rinzaiji.org
