Friday, November 13, 2026

4:30 pm to 7:00 pm

Nuevos Dioses: Devotional Art in the Age of A.I. features over a dozen new paintings by Patrick McGrath Muñiz that question technology's role in modern society through the lens of Spanish Colonial devotional iconography. In this new body of work, McGrath Muñiz asks, "Are we passive consumers of beliefs manufactured for us, or can we still choose what we worship?" McGrath Muñiz's work will be presented in dialogue with select pieces by Nuevomexicano artists whose traditional artistic practices also engage with today's tech-heavy existence: Vincent Campos, Gustavo Victor Goler, Nicholas Herrera, Arthur Lopez, Marion Martinez, Emily Trujillo, and Martha Varoz Ewing.

This free public opening will feature remarks from E. Boyd Curator and Museum Director Jana Gottshalk and artist Patrick McGrath Muñiz; tarot card readings from McGrath’s own Tarot Neocolonial de las Américas by Dani; music by DJ Pablo 77; and refreshments sponsored by NM Hard Cider.
