About This Event
Thursday, November 5th
1:00 - 3:00 PM
This program has been approved for 2 Continuing Education hours for licensure. NASW VT Authorization Number 1245. A certificate of attendance will be sent to all participants who complete the entire training.
Intimate partner violence is unfortunately a prevalent issue in our communities, so it's likely you'll encounter survivor clients in your practice, regardless of the populations you work with. Would you be able to recognize if a client were in an abusive relationship? Are you comfortable screening for intimate partner violence with your clients and would you know how to respond if you learned violence was occurring in their relationship?
Join Steps to End Domestic Violence for an in-depth look at what survivor clients wish their counselors knew. This training will provide information, tools, and resources to deepen your understanding of the dynamics of abusive relationships and grow your skills and confidence when working with survivors.
Learning objectives
At the end of this 2 hour training participants will be able to:
-
Define intimate partner violence and identify signs and types of abuse
-
Recognize the lasting impact of trauma on the survivor and describe how trauma responses might present in your sessions
-
Assess how to screen for IPV and compile sample screening questions for your practice
-
Develop trauma informed, empowerment focused, and survivor centered practices to use in your work with the survivor client
