Enhancing Life and Relationships for the Person Living with Dementia

Thursday, November 3, 2022
Dennis Wicker Civic Center, Sanford, NC

Whether you are new to being a care partner of someone living with dementia or have been doing it for years, this ever-changing condition is always teaching us more. And having an abilities mindset will help you and the person you care for be more successful every day.

Focusing on what your person CAN do and how you respond to them in every situation can create better communication, interaction, and helping. As her website states, Teepa Snow, of Positive Approach to Care® believes that “Rewiring our own perceptions, attitudes, communication strategies, actions, and responses, provides the shift that promotes change for the others around us.”

Teepa’s life mission is to shed a positive light on dementia. During the morning session, she will share about dementia and how to support those living with brain change in a more positive and respectful way.

In the afternoon, Adam J. Hopler, an experienced Elder Law Litigation Attorney, guides us on the topic of serving in a legal relationship with an aging adult. Learn more about important topics such as what emergency measures exist in a crisis to give someone authority over another, how legal relationships can form between caregivers and aging adults voluntarily, involuntarily, and even accidentally, and how you can avoid many of the common issues facing caregivers.

Also, Bright Audiology will be presenting a session titled The Link Between Untreated Hearing Loss and Dementia. Research is looking more and more about the connection between hearing loss and demetia. This session will tell us the recent findings and how we can do to further protect ourselves from this additional dementia risk factor.
