About This Campaign

When Seconds Count, Finding an AED Saves Lives.

When Damar Hamlin collapsed in January 2023, Western New York held its breath. He survived because a defibrillator was located and applied immediately. Delivered within one minute, an AED can raise sudden cardiac arrest survival rates from 10% to 90%—but only if dispatchers and bystanders can find it.

Our Mission

Cardiac Crusade is a national non-profit dedicated to mapping every AED across Western New York and integrating that location data directly into 911 dispatch systems, entirely for free.

We’ve already mapped over 12,000 AEDs—but thousands more remain hidden in offices, gyms, schools, and churches. Every unmapped device is a missed chance to save a life.

How We Save Lives

Sudden cardiac arrest can happen anywhere, and survival is measured in seconds. Here’s how we bridge the gap before the ambulance arrives:

  • Map Every Device: We log exact AED locations in gyms, schools, and businesses.

  • Empower 911 Dispatch: We feed this live registry straight to emergency operators.

  • Guide Bystanders: Dispatchers direct people on-scene to the nearest life-saving AED instantly.

Our initial WNY push put 1,200 hidden AEDs on 911’s radar.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our Impact So Far

  • 12,000+ AEDs Verified Nationwide: Statistically saving 18 lives every single year.

  • 1,200+ Local AEDs Mapped: 911 dispatchers in WNY now know exactly where to direct bystanders before an ambulance arrives.

  • National Reach: 7.5 million outreach emails sent in partnership with Google, driving thousands of new registrations.

  • Featured Leadership: Co-founder Julie Coon’s TEDx Talk continues to spread our heart-safety message nationwide.

Where Your Donation Goes

100% of your gift goes toward expanding the regional registry and equipping local teams. Your support funds:

  • Volunteer training, field gear, and identification setup

  • Visible AED location signage

  • Community outreach, business mailers, and local press campaigns

  • Nationwide scaling to help cities achieve HEARTSafe designation

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cardiac Arrest Doesn't Wait. Neither Should We.

If you saw Russell Salvatore’s message, you know what’s at stake. Help us ensure that when someone’s heart stops in Western New York, a life-saving AED is always on the map.

Every contribution, at any level, moves us closer to a world where no one dies from cardiac arrest simply because an AED couldn't be found.
