About This Event
In 1924 Scarritt Bible and Training School for Women Missionaries moved to Nashville, TN from Kansas City, MO. Spearheaded by Belle Bennett, a socially conscious woman of the upper class, who boldly advocated against racial discrimination, lynching, and the silencing of women’s voices during a time when societal norms dictated otherwise. On Friday, October 18, 2024, we invite you to join us for a celebratory Communi-TEA Luncheon, marking the 100-year history in Nashville. We continue to honor the century of vision, for a world free of racism, where women are empowered to make a difference by raising their voices, where education transforms hearts and minds, and our community is continually offered opportunities for spiritual enrichment.
In commemoration and continued celebration of the legacy that was the college, now Scarritt Bennett Center, this event will highlight the impactful work that continues in the areas of Racial Justice, Spiritual Formation, Transformative Education and Women’s Empowerment. We will also honor the history of the missionaries from the college that took the message peace and justice around the globe.
The Center seeks to maintain an active role at the forefront of social justice issues, building on the legacy with particular emphasis on racial equality, women’s empowerment, intercultural understanding and spiritual enrichment. Tea, when sipped with others creates conversation, unity and community. Your sponsorship of the Communi-TEA Luncheon, on October 18th will support the legacy of unity and community that are the transformative programs in Middle Tennessee and beyond.
