About This Event
Join SGN for a day immersed in the school garden to explore some of the pieces, patterns, and processes of our California native ecosystems. As part of SGN's Schoolyard Habitat Program, this training will help educators broaden their naturalist skills and knowledge as they learn to identify California native plants, animals, and insects commonly found in the school garden. We will also share fun ways to engage students in the garden through hands-on activities designed to engage the senses and foster ecological literacy. Come to connect with peers, share, learn, and grow together!
Training Objectives:
- Gain a deeper familiarity of California plants, animals, and insects commonly found in the school garden, along with ways to teach your students how to observe and identify these pieces of the ecosystem.
- Learn activities to empower your students to connect with the natural world through inquiry, observation, and ecoliteracy development.
- Connect with peer educators while sharing ideas, challenges, and solutions for schoolyard and garden-based nature education.
This workshop is intended for Elementary, Middle School, and High School educators that have a school garden, or will be creating one. Space is limited. If space permits, out-of-school educators will also be invited to participate.
A fresh, vegetarian lunch will be provided. Please fill out the pre-workshop survey in your registration confirmation email to let us know any dietary restrictions.
This workshop is made possible by the Gold Ridge Resource Conservation District.
