Student Testimonial from Gha’il

imagejpeg_0.jpeg"I have had the most tremendous, life-changing experience by being in Liz’s ukulele class. On the very first day of class, I thought to myself, “Will I be able to do this?” And day by day, I became more and more acquainted with this beautiful, delightful instrument. The way Liz taught us, I’ve been able to develop my ear and develop basic skills on the ukulele, and have already told two choreographers/directors that I want to incorporate the ukulele in my next performance with them... I could go on and on, but I want to thank you for approving the scholarship, because now my whole world has changed. I have a new set of friends and comrades, I have a crazy love for a whole new instrument. I’m still in touch with my classmates, I play every single day, and, to top it all off, I was gifted another ukulele…

I now feel connected to my roots, and to my mother and my grandmother in a whole new way. I am now connected to the Jalopy Theatre and surrounding community. This experience has opened doors for me that I didn’t even know existed. Thank you again."

“That’s What Hope is For” —Steve Earle, Songwriting, and Music that Changes the World

"In his Jalopy class, Earle clearly feels an enormous allegiance to these students, particularly the teenagers. His classroom disquisitions are peppered with advice, too. He offers intellectual suggestions — “You cannot write if you don’t read. You can’t write. There’s not enough stuff.""
