Hotel Cost: The Workers Circle has reserved a block of rooms at the Double Tree by Hilton hotel at discounted cost in Montgomery, Alabama. Room costs $220 per night (including tax). Rooms with two double beds or one king bed are available. You must book for all four nights to participate in the room block. You must book your hotel room no later than February 4. Please note, reserving a hotel room within the Workers Circle's room block is an entirely separate process from this registration. You will receive a link to hotel registration once you have registered for the program.
You are welcome to seek alternate accommodations but keep in mind that this hotel, which is a block from the Legacy Museum, is where the vast majority of the delegation is staying and it will be is central to our activities.
Food: Lunches (Friday through Sunday) and Dinners (Thursday through Sunday) during the trip will also be covered as part of the delegation cost. We will have a vegetarian option at all meals. Due to limited availability in Selma, we cannot guarantee gluten free, vegan, or kosher/halal certified meals. You can choose to purchase breakfast through the hotel when you check in at the DoubleTree, or seek out breakfast each morning in downtown Montgomery.
Ground Transportation: The program cost includes bus transportation to and from the Atlanta airport, and to all Workers Circle programs in Selma and Montgomery. We will be sending a follow-up email to all registrants so they can let us know if you plan to rent a car instead. Please note that it is an hour's drive between Selma and Montgomery so the bus is recommended.
Travel to/from the Immersion: You are responsible for arranging and paying for your travel to and from the immersion. We suggest you fly into Atlanta International Airport (ATL) because flights are more frequent, less expensive and often direct from cities across the country. Plan to arrive at ATL no later than 12:00 PM ET (noon) on Thursday, March 5. The Workers Circle bus will depart from ATL at 1:00 PM ET to take you to the hotel in Montgomery and bring you back to ATL for departure on Monday, March 9. Please do not book departing flights earlier than 1:00 PM ET on Monday, March 9 if you are planning to return to ATL on the Workers Circle’s bus.
Activity Level: You should be prepared for a lot of standing and walking around in the Equal Justice Initiative Legacy Museum and in and around Selma/Montgomery. The region can be quite hot in March. Most on activities on Saturday and Sunday will take place away from the hotel and you will not be able to travel back and forth to the hotel easily.
Questions? There is a comment box at the end of the form. You can also write to Francesca Rubinson, Manager of Social Justice at frubinson@circle.org with questions about the Selma trip.
