Join us for an extraordinary evening honoring the life, vision, and legacy of Isabel “Belle” Ortiz, the pioneering educator widely recognized as the Mother of Mariachi Education. San Antonio holds a unique place in the history of arts education as the birthplace of mariachi instruction in public schools. Through the leadership and dedication of Belle Ortiz, mariachi music was first introduced into the classroom within the San Antonio Independent School District. What began as a visionary idea has since grown into a cultural movement that now inspires schools across the United States and around the world. Serenata for Education: The Belle Ortiz Legacy Gala celebrates this remarkable legacy and the generations of students whose lives have been shaped by music, culture, and the arts.

This elegant evening will bring together community leaders, educators, arts advocates, and supporters from across San Antonio to celebrate the transformative power of cultural arts education. The signature highlight of the evening will be a one of a kind showcase featuring respected business and community leaders stepping into the spotlight to sing alongside Mariachi Campanas de America under the direction of two-time Grammy Award winning director Juan Ortiz.

Funds raised will fuel the growth of SAISD’s cultural arts and provide scholarships,instructional support, instruments and uniforms to the students who bring them to life.
