Clay Surfaces: Decorating with Slip

Ready to add unique touches to make your pots distinctly yours? Join us for this hands-on workshop exploring a variety of surface design techniques for clay!

In this workshop, Carole will guide you through different methods for adding pattern and texture to your pottery with slip! We will learn three slip decoration techniques: slip trailing, painting with slip, and using stencils with slip.

Practice tiles will be provided for you to experiment on during the workshop. Students are welcome to bring their own leather hard greenware for further experimentation.

Class discussions will include how to make and store slip, stencil materials, and slip decoration
tools.

Workshop includes:

• Practice tiles
• Slip trailing kit (slip trailing bottle, tips, syringe, tip cleaning tool)
• Use of studio tools, brushes, and stencils
• Bisque firing of practice tiles (available for pick up 1-3 weeks after workshop)

Experience Level: All levels - no prior clay experience required. Prior introductory experience with
clay is helpful.
