At Windermere, we believe that everyone deserves a home, and we are committed to doing our part to drive change and make access to homeownership more equitable. That’s why we’re proud to partner with HomeSight on the Sam Smith Homeownership Fund which helps reduce barriers to homeownership for Black/African Americans. Please join us by making a donation!
Named for legendary Washington State Legislator Sam Smith, who passed the state's Open Housing Law barring discrimination based on race and religion in 1967, the Sam Smith Homeownership Fund helps Black/African Americans achieve their dreams of homeownership. The fund provides deferred, low-interest loans to bridge the affordability gap for low- to moderate-income Black/African Americans, whose homeownership rates have lagged far behind the rest of the population in Washington State, and for whom few resources are available.
Together with Windermere and other homeownership advocates, HomeSight is working to increase Black/African American homeownership in Washington State to 60% by the year 2040. Windermere has made an initial donation of $50,000 to the Sam Smith fund but we need your help to raise even more.

The Windermere Foundation is dedicated to supporting low-income and homeless families in our communities. What started in 1989 as a grassroots foundation serving families in need in Washington State has grown to encompass ten states and has raised over $45 million for programs and organizations that provide shelter, food, children’s programs, emergency assistance, scholarships, and other services to those who need our help most.
