Each year, thousands of students across Kent County walk into their first day of school without the basic supplies they need to learn confidently.
The Big Backpack Build fights these barriers by mobilizing volunteers, businesses, schools and nonprofits to assemble and distribute thousands of backpacks filled with essential school supplies to the students in Kent County who need them most.
This year, the Big Backpack Build will impact 15,000 students. Backpacks will be assembled in August at DeVos Place. Exact date coming soon.

A new backpack with quality supplies is more than just a bag. It’s a statement that every child deserves a chance to succeed, regardless of their circumstances.

SUPPORT A SPECIFIC SCHOOL - Donate to a specific school or start your own fundraiser for that school here.
REQUESTING BACKPACKS - Is your school in need of backpacks? Reach out to michaela@storehousemi.org or call (616) 855-1700 with your school name and roughly how many backpacks you need. There is no cost to your school.
Currently backpacks are only being provide through schools directly, but if you are an individual in need, you can view the list of schools here that have requested backpacks.
