Relational Health Workshop: Practical tools and frames to foster connection

About This Event

Meeting day: Wednesdays (weekly for 3 weeks)
Dates: June 3, 10, and 17th
Time: 11:30am - 1:00pm ET
Facilitator: Stephanie Gerard
Location: Virtual
Theme: Conflict Resolution Processes

Description:

Our reality is that conflict is ubiquitous and arises in daily interactions; one doesn't need to be in a clear “disagreement” or “dispute” to benefit from a mediator’s mindset and tools. The same skills used to manage conflict that rises to the level of law can also be applied to everyday situations (complaining, drama, deadlocks)to better understand others, communicate more clearly, and build more satisfying relationships—between others and within oneself.

The aim of this workshop is to explore how several key factors—conflict, intergenerational communication styles, and the role of the individual in relation to “systems”—interact and influence our exchanges, and how awareness of each can lead to more meaningful relationships of all kinds.

This workshop draws from two main sources: Planning Change’s Mediation Skills Training and Practice, and subsequent work as a Mediator with the New Jersey Supreme Court—together totaling hundreds of hours of practical mediation experience. While both inspirations focus on conflict resolution, the lessons in this workshop operate on a more fundamental level: the relational, regardless of whether conflict is visibly present.

Requirements:  None. (A workbook will be provided to participants - in print or digital format)

All summer workshops will have a component of Circle, and participants with or without Circle experience are welcome.

Stephanie Gerard  Steph Gerard is a communications professional with a unique blended background. As a publicist in the emotionally charged world of beauty and fashion, interpersonal dynamics were critical to her work; accordingly, Steph sought training in leadership, coaching, and problem-solving. One seemingly unconventional course stood out: Mediation. Equipped with powerful, highly effective relational tools, Steph became a conflict-resolution practitioner for New Jersey’s Superior Court. While working simultaneously in communications and court mediation, Steph recognized a powerful connection between the two disciplines. Although PR and Mediation goals differ, success for each requires placing the highest importance on people and relationships. So Steph integrated the two.
