Root Sellers Workshops

About This Event

Root Sellers is a festive fall gathering to celebrate the harvest, connect with community, and stock up for winter. Fill your root cellar, pantry, and freezer with produce, meats, grains, and value-added goods grown and crafted by southern Idaho producers.

We have some exciting workshops coming to Root Sellers this year. All participants in the workshops will leave with new skills and the fruits of their labors!

Fermented Hot Sauce - 10:15 am - 11:45 am

Fermentation is a delicious way to preserve the garden's bounty, with thousands of years of tradition across many cultures. With instruction from Brooke Bonner, owner of Drinkers of the Wind, you'll learn to use the power of microbes to transform fresh vegetables into probiotic-filled hot sauce. (We'll also review how the same process applies to sauerkraut, kimchi, and pickles.) You'll get to taste a few recent ferments from Drinkers of the Wind's garden, in addition to taking home a veggie-filled jar to ferment at home for your own hot sauce! Check-in starting at 10:00 am. Workshop begins at 10:15 am. Price: $45

Seed Saving - 10:15 am - 12:00 pm

Join Manon Gaudreau of the Wood River Seed Library to learn how to save native flower, vegetable, melon, and herb seeds, help package seeds for WRSL. Plus, you'll be able to take seed packages home with you. This workshop is free and available to all ages. Check-in starting at 10:15 am. Workshop begins at 10:30 am. Price: Free

Elderberry Alchemy - 12:00 - 2:00 pm

Explore the healing potential of elderberries and the alchemy of transforming this Idaho native plant into a time-honored herbal preparation with Jamie Truppi, MS, CNS. In this hands-on, two-hour class, we’ll cover when and how to forage for local elderberries, discuss safety and medicinal benefits, sample elderberry fruit leather, and learn two methods for making syrup using both fresh and dried berries. Participants will receive an 8-ounce jar of spiced elderberry syrup made with local, raw honey. Check-in starting at 11:45 am. Workshop begins at 12:00 pm. Price: $45

Before your workshop, we invite you to shop with local vendors. Then, plan to stick around after for seasonal prepared foods from local vendors and live music!
