About This Event
We’re feeling mighty freylekh(joyful)—and ready to dance—to invite you to a rare, double-featured Shabbat day of music in Santa Fe. We are hosting two of the most innovative voices in modern klezmer and Yiddish song—Jordan Wax and Jake Shulman-Ment—for their first-ever joint tour of the Southwest. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to catch these two master custodians of the "golden chain" of Yiddish tradition.
Jake, hailed by NPR as "one of the finest klezmer fiddlers on the planet," brings a world-class pedigree spanning from HBO’s Succession and Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman to international festival stages. Alongside him, our own local powerhouse Jordan Wax leads the charge in Yiddish cultural renewal right here in New Mexico. A 2024-25 New Jewish Culture Fellow, Jordan masterfully blends Yiddish language work and contemporary songwriting. Together, they are bridging the gap between historical tradition and modern creativity in a way that feels both ancient and brand new. You truly won’t want to miss this.
We’ve woven the day together into two distinct experiences: a morning concert designed specifically for families and kids, and a separate, immersive acoustic session curated for adults. There is something deeply special about gathering together on Shabbat to celebrate these melodies, and we are so glad to have you with us for this day of connection at UU Santa Fe.
