From October 7-17, a group of six women, including many from Trinity, will be traveling to Costa Rica to build a brick oven for another amazing group - 10 women from a church in Carpintero de Sardinal.  The women, including their pastor, have banded together with the dream to create a bakery called Sabores del Cielo “Flavors of Heaven” to provide for their families and build a better life.  With an oven and kitchen, they will feed their community and support their children.

Trinity members have been raising money for several years to support Bricks to Bread and build an oven in El Salvador where we have a long and enduring partnership.  Making a build possible in a new country takes time and careful planning.  The opportunity to build in Costa Rica this fall will give us hands on experience and first-hand knowledge of the process as we continue to partner with Bricks to Bread to change lives.  A key member of the Lutheran Church in El Salvador will join us in Costa Rica to participate in this exploratory build while we all learn more to bring our knowledge to our congregations.

The Bricks to Bread model to build opportunities by “breaking bread together” can be used in our mission partner countries as well as close to home as Trinity outreach also explores how building a brick oven might be used to support local ministries and outreach.

This chance for Trinity women to support women from the Carpintero de Sardinal congregation and learn about the full process is truly a faith opportunity that came together just this summer.  Bricks to Bread works because willing volunteers commit to the labor to build the oven and funds are raised for materials. Trip participants are paying their own expenses for this trip with Bricks to Bread, while pretzel bake sales and Garden Share donations this past summer have helped provide a portion of the funds for the oven itself. More funds are essential for reaching the goal of $12,000 needed to purchase all of the materials to build the oven and kitchen. Click here to learn more about the Carpintero women's group.

Please donate today and help us make the “Flavors of Heaven” bakery a reality for the women's group of Carpintero de Sardinal!
