This scholarship is a memorial to Pastor Scott Robinson who spread the message of unity and equality throughout Garrett County, and helped start our local chapter of the NAACP. Pastor Scott led seminars and gatherings on diversity and tolerance, opening many of our eyes to local historical and ongoing racial injustices.

This scholarship honors his efforts by supporting students of color attending Garrett College.
Need-based assistance & grants cover most Garrett College tuition & fees, but living costs of $8,000-$10,000 per year are far above most student loans. Therefore, many students rely on scholarships and other help like charitable campus food pantries to cover room, board, and books. Garrett County College students of color face a myriad of stressors resulting in high drop-out rates. Therefore, Garrett County NAACP wants to promote success among these students through financial scholarships.

Since beginning in December 2021, two Garrett College students have received our scholarship, one for 2022-23 and for 2023-24 academic year. As our funds increase, our goal is to increase both the number of annual recipients and the amount of each award. 100% of every tax-deductible dollar donated to Garrett County NAACP Scott Robinson Memorial Scholarship goes directly to the college to cover student expenses. Thanks to our partnership with the CollegeBound Foundation, scholarship funds are managed with no administrative fees.
