Birding with a Purpose

About This Event

Many of us love birds and have chosen birding as a hobby. However, after gaining a basic knowledge of birds and the art of birding, maybe it's time to consider making our hobby also part of bird conservation.

The Birding with a Purpose event will empower you to take your birding knowledge and use it to make a difference to the birds.

When: March 28, 2025, 6:30 - 8:30 PM
Where: Hunke Gathering Hall at Herff Farm - 33 Herff Rd, Boerne, Texas 78006
Program:
6:30 PM - Join us for a chance to socialize with your fellow bird nerds while partaking in hors d'oeuvres.

7:00 PM - Avid Audubon birders and Alamo Chapter Texas Master Naturalists Patsy & Tom Inglet will lead a talk describing the various ways you can put your love for birds and birding skills to work!

This event is 100% free, but we are limiting participation to the first 80 people to sign up, so grab your spot soon. We hope to see you there!

Meet Your Guides: Tom & Patsy IngletCopy of Imagine.png

Tom and Patsy Inglet are native Texans originally from the Houston area, although they lived and worked 25 years overseas. They “retired” to the San Antonio area in 1999 and started their new career as “professional volunteers.”

Birds started as a volunteer interest, but they have now become a passion and a focus of their educational and conservation efforts and recreational activities and travels. They have traveled to every continent to see as many birds as possible, banded birds in the field, monitored birds in the nest, and taught many children and adults the basics of birding. They are proud Bird Nerds and work to conserve the birds they love by engaging more people in birding.

Patsy & Tom are:

  • Texas Master Naturalists (Class 8) in the Alamo Chapter. Tom and Patsy have both earned the 10,000-hour pin for their volunteer work. They teach the Bird Class for the Alamo Area and Lindheimer Chapters.
  • Active members of Bexar Audubon Society (Patsy is on the board and is the current Education & Engagement Chair).
  • Supporters of National Audubon Society (NAS), Texas Ornithological Society (TOS), American Bird Conservancy (ABC), American Birding Association (ABA), and Cornell Lab of Ornithology (CLO)—all organizations with a focus on birds and their conservation.

Re-connecting people of all ages with nature, via birds, and helping to conserve our natural habitats for the benefit of both birds and people have become top priorities for Patsy and Tom.
