Wayne Hall Invitational
Hosted by Farmington Country Club and Benefiting First Tee – Virginia Blue Ridge
Celebrating a Living Legacy of Leadership, Service, and Community Impact
The Wayne Hall Invitational celebrates the remarkable contributions of Marvin “Wayne” Hall — a proud veteran, accomplished club executive, and passionate community advocate whose decades of leadership continue to shape lives across Central Virginia.
For nearly four decades, Wayne Hall served Farmington Country Club with vision, integrity, and humility. For over 30 years he served in a range of leadership roles, from Assistant Golf Professional to Director of Mechanical Services, Assistant Manager of Sports and Physical Facilities, and ultimately to Assistant General Manager. In every position, he led with purpose, humility, and a deep sense of service. As Assistant General Manager, Wayne not only ensured operational excellence at one of the country’s most prestigious private clubs, he also pursued opportunities to connect Farmington’s resources with the broader Charlottesville community in meaningful ways.
Wayne’s story is one of lifelong service. He served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, completing 185 aerial combat missions as a Weapons Specialist and Aerial Gunner. Following his military service, he brought his skills to roles in technology and commercial services before entering the club industry. Over his career, he earned his Certified Club Manager (CCM) designation, served on the Board of the Virginias Chapter of the Club Managers Association of America, and held the office of Chapter President in 1998.
He has also given back in countless other ways — organizing blood drives, mentoring young professionals, and serving with his church. Through it all, Wayne Hall has remained grounded in the belief that strong communities are built when we invest in one another.
Nowhere was this vision more powerfully realized than in his role as a founding force behind First Tee – Charlottesville, the original local chapter of what is now First Tee – Virginia Blue Ridge. In the late 1990s, Wayne recognized a pressing need: to create access for young people — regardless of background — to the game of golf and the values it teaches. Understanding both the privilege of Farmington’s platform and the responsibility it carried, Wayne helped spearhead the Club’s support for the initiative, connecting its leadership and members with national First Tee representatives and local stakeholders to bring the program to life.
For Wayne, it wasn’t just about golf — it was about creating opportunities, building confidence, and helping young people discover their potential. Wayne’s commitment to the mission didn’t stop at formation. He remains a proud advocate of First Tee and its mission to teach core values like honesty, perseverance, and respect through the game of golf.
The Wayne Hall Invitational is a tribute to that belief — and to the man who continues to help bring it to life. This tournament honors Wayne not only for his past contributions, but for the living legacy he continues to inspire. All proceeds from the event support First Tee – Virginia Blue Ridge, ensuring the mission he helped start will continue shaping lives for years to come.
