Timeless Florida: The Highwaymen Gala

About This Event

This January, step into a sultry Southern evening humming with the glow and grit of a backwoods Florida juke joint. The Museum of Art – DeLand honors the untold legacy of the Florida Highwaymen in a soul-stirring fundraiser gala that invites you to experience their story in an entirely new light.

Join us as we celebrate our 2026 opening exhibition, The Florida Highwaymen: Selections from the Walker Collection, and its enduring themes of triumph, artistry, and American ingenuity. Your support helps us deliver world-class fine arts programming to our community all year long.

Generously presented by The Walker Collection of Self-Taught Florida Art, the evening promises beautiful cocktails, lively company, and decadent Southern hors d’oeuvres provided by Venue 142. Guests can groove to the swanky jazz and blues stylings of the Chaz Underriner Trio and enjoy a special on-site painting session by second-generation Florida Highwayman Kelvin Hair (son of original Highwayman Alfred Hair).

We’ll also feature an exceptional silent auction with covetable items and experiences — including the very artwork Kelvin Hair creates during the gala. Be part of this cultural highlight of the season as we honor Florida’s artistic past and help shape its creative future.
