Discover the magic of mask making in this immersive workshop with String & Shadow Puppet Theater, led by artist Emily McHugh.
Over the course of two intensive sessions, participants will explore the fundamentals of mask construction, using accessible materials like cardboard, newspaper, masking tape, and paint to create their own wearable animal mask. Guided through this collaborative project from design to completion, participants will learn a variety of cardboard sculpting and paper-maché techniques used in giant-puppet construction, and everyone will leave with a finished mask (perfect for any upcoming Halloween parties!). This workshop is perfect for artists, educators, and anyone interested in the intersection of theater, visual art, and play. No prior experience is necessary—just bring your creativity and community spirit!
Participants should come to the workshop with an idea of what animal (or creature) they are interested in creating - and a couple of sketches or photographs of their subject.
DATES: Saturday, September 27th (10am-1pm) and Sunday, September 28th (10am-12pm)

AGES: Any youth under the age of 14 needs to be accompanied by an adult.
