This Fall, enjoy an afternoon in nearby Smoke Rise, a gated community within Kinnelon, NJ, distinguished by its natural beauty, historic character, and distinctive homes set throughout the lush landscape. Smoke Rise was thoughtfully planned with the philosophy that no two homes would look alike, reflecting its founders’ appreciation for the isolation and scenic beauty of Morris County. At the heart of this historic community lies an island on Lake Kinnelon, where our tour of St. Huberts Chapel will take place.

St. Huberts Chapel was built in 1886 by 19th-century industrialist, Francis S. Kinney, as a token of love and devotion to his wife, Mary. After having the structure consecrated and placed under the patronage of St. Hubert, the patron saint of hunters, Kinney sought to introduce historical and artistic significance into the chapel. To accomplish this, he called on Louis Comfort Tiffany, son of Tiffany & Co. founder Charles Tiffany, to undertake the interior decorations, including the altar, several of its stained-glass windows, a tile floor, woodwork, chandelier, and front door. In doing so, St. Hubert’s Chapel became the first fully integrated ecclesiastical interior designed by Louis C. Tiffany’s Tiffany Glass Co.

Today, Smoke Rise remains a very special community, where its historic heritage and natural beauty are proudly preserved. Enjoy an afternoon with us as you explore this historic locale, beginning with a guided tour of St. Huberts Chapel, followed by cocktails and conversation at the Smoke Rise Village Inn bar, located within a historic stone farming structure dating back to 1892 and serving as a premier culinary destination since 1947. Travel Information

• Travel fee includes a tour of St. Huberts Chapel with Kinnelon Historian Tom Kline as well as cocktails and small bites at the Smoke Rise Village Inn. An itinerary will be provided.
• Transportation to and from St. Huberts Chapel is not provided.
• Cancellation Policy: 50% refunds are available through 10/6/26. No refunds are available after this date.

Accessibility and Mobility Requirements

• Please note that the boats, floating docks, and Chapel Island are not handicap accessible. All visitors must be self-ambulatory, meaning they must be able to walk and maintain their balance without a cane, walker, wheelchair, or other mobility assistance.
• Access to the boats and the island requires walking along a floating dock, which may move underfoot.

What to Wear

• Please dress comfortably and appropriately for the weather.
• Wear sturdy, comfortable footwear. Heels of any kind are not recommended.
• Dress in layers and bring a warm jacket or sweater. Weather on the island can be unpredictable, and temperatures may feel considerably cooler than on the mainland. 
• There is no heat inside the Chapel, so please plan accordingly and dress warmly.

• No open flames are permitted on the island.
• Smoking is not permitted, including outdoors.
