Workshop Description:
Participants will have the opportunity to create a small round basket using traditional basket reed during this hands-on workshop. You will learn foundational weaving techniques while working with natural materials, and explore how to shape and construct your basket from start to finish. A variety of colored reed will be available, allowing you to personalize your piece and make it uniquely your own. Participants will leave with a completed basket and a deeper understanding of a different weaving technique. All levels are welcome; ages 14+.
About the Instructor:
Carrie LaDuke is an avid crafter and artist with 25+ years experience based in Sparta, New Jersey. She enjoys working with natural materials and combining disciplines. In addition to basket weaving, her other passions include wood-burning (pyrography) and broom-making. Her work has been accepted to several juried events at Peters Valley and beyond. She also teaches workshops at Peters Valley, Princeton University Creativity Labs and Sussex County Art & Heritage Council.
