Description:

There are multiple considerations needed before going into private practice. These include but are not limited to clinical skills, financial and business acumen, professional isolation and development. This panel of therapists in private practice will discuss how they negotiated this decision. They will also provide practical tips in identifying and managing the multiple issues involved.  

The Presenters request attendees note on the registration issues of importance to them.    

Goal:

This presentation will identify many important issues to consider while making the decision to enter private practice.  

Presenters:

Amanda Aguilera, LPC, graduated from ICSW in 2023 and went directly into a private practice. She works with adolescents, adults, and couples, specializing in sexual abuse, trauma/ptsd, depression, and anxiety.

Nicole Johnson, Ph.D., LCSW, completed the doctoral program at the Institute for Clinical Social Work in 2020. She is a licensed clinical social worker and owns Mindful Counseling Services, PLLC, a private clinical practice in Raleigh, NC. With over 23 years of experience in the mental health field, Dr. Johnson provides relationally focused psychodynamic therapy to adults seeking support and growth, and supervises professionals across various disciplines. She maintains a strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, and social justice, reflected in her professional practice and community involvement.

Glynis Kristal-Ragsdale, LCPC is a psychotherapist in private practice in Chicago and a core faculty member at the Institute for Clinical Social Work. She has past experience working in community mental health in child welfare. Prior to becoming a therapist, Glynis was a middle school teacher. 

Bill Singerman M.A., M.Ed., LCPC serves as the Site Manager for The Kedzie Center, a community mental health center that provides psychodynamic therapy to individuals, families and groups, in both English and Spanish. In addition, he maintains a small private practice and provides graduate supervision. Bill holds two master's degrees - one in Clinical Counseling and Psychotherapy from the Institute of Clinical Social Work (Chicago) and one in Education from Bank Street College of Education (NYC). Before entering the counseling field, he taught middle school humanities.

De’Asia Thompson, LISW, focuses on improving the mental health and well-being of Black women and other women of color. At her practice, she focuses on providing a safe space for clients to heal as they navigate various terrains such as race, gender, sexuality, and other intersectional places they meet that contributes to their depression and anxiety.

Leah Harp, LCSW, PhD is an alumnae and Chair of the Board of Trustees at the Institute for Clinical Social Work.
