Intense Interactions: Regression, Enactment and Projective Identification in Relational Supervision

About This Event

PRESENTED BY ICSW CONTINUING EDUCATION COMMITTEE

Description:

This seminar will focus on exploring the potential range of regressive experiences that can occur in the supervisory relationship. From a relational perspective, regression is redefined as an often appropriate and necessary aspect of supervision that needs to be examined and understood rather than being seen as an undesirable phenomenon that needs to be avoided and overcome.

The relationship between enactment and projective identification will be explored in terms of how these dynamics can unconsciously play out in the triadic relationship between supervisor supervisee and clients and how identifying and illuminating their operation and influence, can enhance the treatment. Brief case vignettes of challenging supervisory situations from participants, will be solicited and discussed.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will be consider the implications for their supervisory relationships of reconceptualizing regression from a relational point of view.
  2. Participants will increase their understanding of how enactment and projective identification can play out and effect their supervisory relationships
